Book: DIVERSItype

To collect the different fonts, opinions and outcomes I'm doing for clients I'm going to create a book. It will contain:
-the different fonts (name, sample, etc)
-the outcomes (as I'm designing fonts for different people) and
-comments from published typographers (editing and designing a typographic layout as a presentation for each font).

The size will be 19.50 x 21 cm, 38 pages, high quality double sided matt coated paper and perfect binding.
The cover would have the word diversitype cos I think this summarizes my project. Diverse opinions on diverse typefaces for diverse clients by diverse designers.
And it's a book because I want my my FMP to be in the field of editorial design.

I really like the title. It's so strange to see non-type based photographs on your blog! but as always your research and presentation is fantastic. I'm sure your book will be perfect! Am currently doing research about binding for my annual, will pass on details.

Thank you but I already have that! I've been researching and I'm going for perfect binding (with adhesive), soft cover, uncoated paper... and the size slightly bigger than a cd cover!
Do you remember what we talked about The Ultimate Guide for designers like us when we started the horror poster with no idea of how to start working with type and fontlab?

Great progress, Christina, you've done a big bunch of work that shows off your talent. Collecting your work in a beautiful book sounds like the cherry on a cake!! Keep up the good work! Mary xxx

Based on the gorgeous cover, you will have to make two copies, one for you, and one for me! Defo need to make contact/ feedback issue the main foucs and not sure about showing the experimenting stage, as worried it might take away from professionality of the book. In any case these kind of showcase book are not chunky, so maing a slim line slick book would be just right.

Hi Cristina

I wrote a really long entry but deleted it all because I just saw your idea to create a user book for designers starting to create their own fonts. I think thats a great idea as it has sustainable use and purpose and it also tests your skills. Whilst this idea stops it becoming too personal and all about your progress,it also has the intent to show other designers what the designing of a font involves from start to finish. Personally i like this more than diversity as its not so subjective.

Hi Aimee,

The main aim of the book will be to generate responses from professional typographers/designers to, then, design an type based image out of those comments as a "presentation" for the fonts.

The fact of using real designers gives the brief a bit of the "live" element that most of us are looking for to make our final major "real".

But as I'm also basing my typefaces on "clients" I'll have another live element on the book, those outcomes I'm coming with.

Is it understandable? Please let me know if there's something missing!!
